EMAF Talks: The trans*reformulation of language in experimental political videos

Conference by Marina Gržinić & Tjaša Kancler
Wild Grammar – European Media Art Festival 2019, Osnabrück, Germany.

In this lecture Gržinić and Kancler reflect how a selected number of video works through trans* discursivity reformulate the film language of short and experimental video films in order to open a new politics in the field. Our analysis draws on trans*body, trash imagery, the relation of language and law, marginalizing social structures, and rebel unruly positions that through performative declarations of language and structure of their videos repoliticize the experimental video practice of the 21st century. By embracing trans* discourses, histories of subversive films from the South and former Eastern Europe, the lecture explores modes to create wild meanings.

24th MFRU Trust 3: The International trust + Women’s forum

12.–19. October 2018, Maribor, Slovenia

Over three years of “Trust”, MFRU functioned as an autonomous zone—a space for exchange, collaboration, and reflection. The festival editions explored its evolving relationship with the city, the national context, and the international community. Each edition built new bridges: first by engaging local spaces and citizens, then by connecting national institutions and artists, and finally by focusing exclusively on international women artists.

BSTP 2018 WORKSHOP

Prizren, Kosova

The goal of this workshop, which will be held in Prizren, Kosova, in the summer of 2018 is to orient current decolonial and postcolonial discourses towards post-socialist Balkan countries. The workshop will gather international scholars, activists and artists to discuss and analyze anti-capitalist politics, feminism, critical race theory and postcolonialism in the context of Kosova, specifically, and eastern Europe, generally. Hence, the workshop will draw attention to places traditionally deemed unphilosophical as sites of theoretical and practical resistance.
